About us

Why I do this.

Private Mental Health Care was founded by someone who experienced being completely stuck and then found their way out.

The Story of Gijs

I know how that first step feels.

There was a time when I was completely lost. I tried to solve all my problems myself, and it didn't work. My family stood by and could do nothing.

It was only when they set clear boundaries that something happened. Not because they let me go, quite the opposite. It created space to genuinely accept help.

After my hospitalisation, I realised that recovery is a process. It takes time, and you can't achieve it with willpower alone. What makes the difference is having someone guide you in the right direction and stay by your side. That's why I became a healthcare professional: because I believe that good care shouldn't have to wait.

Today I’m helping others make that first step possible. Because recovery isn't an individual journey. You do it together.

„The first step may feel hard, but it's the biggest change you'll ever make.”

That's why I take them myself. Not because it's efficient, but because I know what it feels like to make that first call.

Honest answers

Am I really speaking to Gijs himself?

Yes. He takes his own calls, seven days a week. Not because it's efficient, but because he knows what it feels like to make that first call.

What does it mean that you work outside the regular system?

You pay yourself. This means no referral is needed, no waiting list, and no registration with your health insurer.

Can I also come to you for help with addiction?

For that, there is Private Addiction Care, specialising in addiction treatment. You don't need to repeat your story.
